a seed for tomorrow
we sat in there
near the sea.
I never knew
different parts of the sea
look different
I think the way you look at things
matter.
I can testify
about the beauty of Joy.
her dark melanin shadowed the night
her calm smile warmed the cold winds
her gentle hair danced with the waves
her eyes reflected her kindness.
her soul,
I was too unholy to comment about that.
I could see her purity
in the gates of her eyes.
"Dave,
are you here?"
"I surely am
just with you."
"I know. I’ve read it in your stories.
you seem an introvert,"
she introverted my attention.
she was right
I could count my friends
with fingers in one hand.
large crowds stressed me
I needed time to be alone.
"by the way, it’s getting dark. what should we do?"
"I’m not mesmerised by the darkness of the sky,
I’m mesmerised by the darkness of your skin."
"you definitely know how to talk to a woman."
she smiled
and leaned her head on my shoulder
I felt her warmness
a new kind of warmness
even though my jacket was old
like my heart.
I held her left hand
it was softer than the soft breath of the sun
in the morning.
where there is light the darkness is gone
so light this night of mine
Joy
everything I heard was true
just one touch of the right person
can heal the untouchable pain of mine.
her legs made a movement
"are you cold?"
"a little."
"here, take my jacket."
"what about you?"
"I can handle the cold."
it was true, I could
before she came to my life
all my nights were cold
even summer nights.
she took my jacket
and put it on her shoulders.
it was a blanket for her on that blank night.
"Dave,
you’re so mature.
who taught you this?"
"people"
"how?"
"I met immature people
and learned not to do the same."
"are you the same Dave as you were in the books?"
"no,
not anymore.
I’ve grown."
"tell me something I don’t know about you!"
"I cry when I pray."
"I know the feeling.
there are things you can only tell God about.
why do you pray?"
"every prayer I pray today
is a seed planted for tomorrow
I know I will one day see the harvest."
"what do you want in life, Dave?"
"Joy."
